The ninth Conference and General Assembly of the West African Association of Finance Commissions (Waapac) has been held in Cotonou since Monday, August 21, 2923. It is a melting pot of exchange between parliamentarians from the subregion, representatives of parliamentary staff and mobilized experts, who discuss the management of public debt and the role of the finance and public accounts committees in West Africa over the course of five days.

Placed under the theme “effective management of public debt: the role of accounting and finance committees in West Africa”, the meeting is based on reflections on the economic challenges of states, the monitoring and control role of deputies on debt management are essential for deputies and administrative officials parliamentarian. The second Vice-President of the National Assembly, Barthélemy Kassa, indicated that the Cotonou meeting, in addition to being a “melting pot of high-level exchanges between parliamentarians of the sub-region, representatives of parliamentary staff and experts”, must also “contribute qualitatively to the effectiveness of the Chambers of our various parliaments, in their missions of voting laws and controlling the public action.”
