The Mauritanian Investment Bank (BMI) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a financing agreement in Nouakchott on Monday in Nouakchott in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union to Mauritania, H.M. Gwilym Jones.

Under this agreement, the Mauritanian Investment Bank will obtain a €20 million credit line in the form of a long-term loan granted by the European Investment Bank with the support of the European Commission and the European Development Fund. At least 30% of the loan granted by the EIB will be directed to businesses run by women or supporting the employment and training of young people, he said

It should be noted that this is the EIB's first cooperation with the Mauritanian financial sector since 2006, and one of the first operations under the new 2023 — 2027 agreement between the European Commission and the EIB for financing the private sector in ACP countries.
