The survey of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) on banking conditions reveals a drop in lending interest rates for banks in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA). This decrease recorded in December is estimated at 0.2%. The lending interest rates applied by WAEMU banks to their customers at the end of December 2020 fell by 0.2% compared to November 2020. According to the survey on banking conditions carried out by the BCEAO, the average borrowing rate excluding charges and taxes, calculated at the WAEMU scale, stands at 6.3% against 6.5% in November 2020. The rate of return on customer deposits stood at 4.8% in December 2020, the same level as November's achievements.
The said survey indicates that the average amount of bids on the weekly auction window stood at 3,640.5 billion FCFA in December against 3,524.7 billion FCFA the previous month, an increase of 3.3%.
The issuing institution specifies that at the level of the WAEMU interbank market, the average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, increased by 27.8% to stand at 363.2 billion FCFA during the period. under review. The weighted average rate is 2.61% against 2.97% a month earlier.
