The heads of state of ECOWAS member countries decided to accelerate the construction of the Abidjan-Lagos highway. The ADB is the pioneer in mobilizing financing for the implementation of this project.

On the sidelines of an ECOWAS summit in Bissau, the leaders of Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo, the countries that the highway will cross, committed the ECOWAS Commission “to accelerate the completion of the detailed design study, the financial and implementation strategy, as well as the preparation of tender documents for the launch of the “highway” construction phase. Indeed, the ADB has already provided 25 million dollars to finance the preparation of the project.
