Since July 2018, Côte d'Ivoire has had a new out-of-court dispute settlement body serving insured persons. This Wednesday, February 10, 2021, in Abidjan-Cocody, Ernest Assamoi Anassé, first head of the Insurance Association of Côte d'Ivoire (Asa-Ci) explains the missions, the conditions of referrals and the reasons that founded the creation of "Insurance Mediation".

Set up by asa-Ci, "La médiation de l'Assurance" aims to provide policyholders, victims and beneficiaries of insurance contracts with an out-of-court mechanism for settling disputes between policyholders and insurers. One of its missions is to promote the amicable settlement of these disputes.
According to the Insurance Ombudsman, Assamoi Anassé, this body may be seized of an individual dispute between an insurance company and its client. The referral is free of charge for the insured. It must be in writing and must be accompanied by a precise and detailed description of the claim and the available supporting documents.
However, if a dispute is the subject of legal proceedings, the Ombudsman is not competent to examine it. "The Ombudsman shall give an opinion based on law and fairness. He is bound by strict compliance with professional secrecy," he explained
To render its decision, the out-of-court dispute resolution system at the service of insured persons has 45 days.
