In Côte d'Ivoire, the fish consumption requirement is 86%. With the intention of effectively meeting this need, the country is launching a program that aims to promote self-sufficiency in fish and exports by the end of the decade. This program is a continuation of the national aquaculture development plan.

The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries launches the Strategic Programme for the Transformation of Aquaculture in Côte d'Ivoire (PSTACI), which aims to produce 150,000 tons of fish in 2026. According to the ministry, the program should form the foundation for a successful and competitive national aquaculture industry in this flagship West African economy that still imports 86% of its fish consumption needs in 2021, according to official data.

Thus, “The successful implementation of the program will enable the future development of SMEs and large enterprises capable not only of meeting national demand, but also of consider exports for which global needs are increasingly growing. It will also stimulate investment in the aquaculture sector,” suggested the Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Sidi Touré, according to the Ivorian Press Agency (API). It should be remembered that the aquaculture sector is one that several African countries are trying to develop.
