The heads of state have appointed Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, an Ivorian national, as the new governor of the Central Bank. He succeeds Tiemoko Meyliet Koné, who was recently appointed Vice President of Côte d'Ivoire.

Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, from Côte d'Ivoire, was appointed governor of the BCEAO by an extraordinary summit of the Heads of State and Government of UEMOA, held on Saturday, June 4, 2017 in Accra, Ghana. The news was made public by President Alassane Ouattara via his Twitter account. “I extend my warm congratulations to our compatriot Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, Chairman of the #CEDEAO Commission, who was appointed the future Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (#BCEAO) during our Summit,” wrote the president.

Jean-Claude Kassi Brou will take on his new role as of July 4, 2022. Former Minister of Industry and Mines of Côte d'Ivoire, the 69-year-old man is well aware of the banking institution he will take control of, as well as the challenges it faces. Indeed, he worked there for 8 years in various positions, including Director of International Relations, Director of the Department of Economic Studies and Currency and Comptroller General.
