World Bank Group President David Malpass today announced the appointment of Makhtar Diop as Managing Director and Executive Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a branch of the World Bank Group.

Mr. Diop's main responsibilities will be to deepen and energize IFC's 3.0 strategy of proactively creating markets and mobilizing private capital on a large scale; meeting ifC's political commitments under the investment program, including increasing investments in climate and gender and supporting FCV countries facing fragility, conflict and violence
According to David Malpass' statement, "Makhtar Diop has extensive experience in development and finance and a career of energetic leadership and service to developing countries in both the public and private sectors."
 "Makhtar's expertise at the IFC will help the World Bank Group continue its rapid response to the global crisis and build a green, resilient and inclusive recovery. We need successful business and business climates that attract investment, create jobs and support the scaling up of low-carbon electricity and transport, clean water, infrastructure, digital services and the wide range of development successes that are essential to our mission of poverty reduction and shared prosperity," said World Bank Group No. 1.
Makhtar Diop will now work to strengthen the links between the IFC, the World Bank and MIGA, as the World Bank Group accelerates its efforts to drive good development outcomes in client countries.
