On Wednesday 6 March 2024, the first meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee for the year 2024 of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) was held at its Headquarters in Dakar.

The Governor of Bceao Jean-Claude Kassi Brou chaired the activities of the meeting that took place yesterday. In his speech, the governor noted an improvement in the economic situation in UEMOA. According to him, Within our Economic and Monetary Union, the momentum of economic recovery launched since 2021 continued with a growth rate of 5.6% recorded in 2023, almost the same rate in 2022, driven mainly by the dynamism of activity in all sectors. He also indicated that there was a gradual decrease in inflation during 2023. The Governor also indicates that the decrease “came to 3.7% against 7.4% the previous year the previous year

Furthermore, it notes an improvement in “the situation of the Union's external accounts since the end of the year with the reduction of the current account deficit and the mobilizations made during this period and the issuance of Eurobonds by countries of the Union”.
