On Wednesday, September 28, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) published a financial inclusion scorecard for the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) for the year 2021. A strict increase in the rate of bank penetration in all countries in the region between 2020 and 2021 has been observed, except in Senegal and Guinea Bissau. The data show a rate of 18.9% at the end of December 2021, compared with 19.6% at the end of the previous year in Senegal.
