Four new countries are under financial crime surveillance by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). These are Morocco, Senegal, Burkina Faso and the Cayman Islands. At the end of a plenary meeting, the intergovernmental body on Thursday added Morocco, Senegal, Burkina Faso and the Cayman Islands to the "grey list" for their shortcomings in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. These four countries are now making countries with "strategic deficiencies", but which have made a commitment to implement action plans within a set time frame to improve their situation. The FATF has identified progress made by most of the other countries on this grey list, namely Albania, Burma, Botswana, Cambodia, Ghana, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Barbados and Jamaica, also on the grey list, have not provided new information to the FATF since October due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As for Iran and North Korea, they are kept on the blacklist of non-cooperative countries on money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
