Hushpuppi known in the civil registry as Ramon Abbas accused of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars and fraud by compromise of business email (BEC). The 38-year-old man should be heard by the courts at the end of 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic has delayed things. One of the money laundering cases in which the Nigerian is involved was revealed by the Ministry of Justice last Wednesday. It is a vast international criminal conspiracy involving suspected North Korean military hackers. They allegedly carried out a “series of destructive cyberattacks to steal and extort over $1.3 billion in cash and cryptocurrency from financial institutions and businesses,” according to the US Department of Justice. Nigerian Hushpuppi is accused of working with these North Korean hackers to launder funds. The sum diverted would be 14.7 million dollars. The date and the amount correspond to the cyber-robbery of the Maltese bank in Valletta. Malta has confirmed the information but speaks instead of 13 million dollars. The amounts were reportedly 'traced' and 'cancelled' and none of the bank's customers lost their money.
