The World Bank last week published an analytical report on the state of the economy in Burkina Faso. In this document, it suggests that the country reform its public finances "in order to free up more budgetary space to strengthen the delivery of goods and services to the population and the promotion of new sectors capable of creating jobs.

The World Bank's resident representative in Burkina, Maïmouna Mbow Fam, considered that digital technologies are a sector favorable to productivity growth. Thus, the promotion of digital technologies is recommended to strengthen the resilience of the economy. This area is an opportunity because Burkina Faso is a regional leader in the adoption of digital financial services in terms of transaction volumes and account openings. The World Bank therefore urges the government of Burkina Faso to promote the adoption of digital financial services globally, and particularly in the agricultural sector, social protection and in the private sector.
