Data from the Bank of Central African States (Beac) indicates that Cameroon's outstanding bank loans have increased from 585 billion FCFA to 655 billion FCFA, an increase of 70.6 billion FCFA, since the end of March 2020.
At the end of February 2021, bad debts experienced the largest increase, with an increase of 45 billion FCFA to reach 385.5 billion FCFA at the end of February 2021.
According to the Beac, unpaid claims in the Cameroonian banking system fell from 85.6 billion FCFA at the end of March 2020 to 68 billion FCFA at the end of February 2021. Compared to December 2020, this indicator shows a drop of nearly 32 billion FCFA.
The accumulation of outstanding debts of limited companies and individuals is 458.6 billion FCFA, or 84% of the total outstanding outstanding debts of the Cameroonian banking sector. Overall, non-performing loans in the Cameroonian banking sector, from 14.5% at the end of 2019, are now at 16.5%.
