Figures provided by the Directorate-General for Economic Affairs (DGE) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance reveal that the international situation has weighed on on Côte d'Ivoire's foreign trade in the first half of 2022. The result is still a positive balance of 256.7 billion FCFA but is significantly lower than the surplus of FCFA 873.3 billion in the first half of 2021.

The average import price increased by 26.7% year-on-year while the average export price increased by only 16.7%. Thus, the terms of trade deteriorated by 7.9%. In the first half of 2022, imports jumped by 54.7% compared to the same period in 2021 to reach FCFA 5.235 billion. In volume, they increased by only 6.4%. An increase in value following the depreciation of the euro against the dollar and the rise in prices following, in particular, the war in Ukraine, especially for cereals, oil and fertilizers. Food prices, which represent 18% of total imports in the first half of 2022, rose by an average of 18.7%. But rice has soared by 40%.
