On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank gave the green light to finance the first phase of the Farim-Tanaff-Sandinieri project with 100.73 million US dollars.

The Bank is thinking of investing to implement part of the Bissau-Dakar Road Corridor Improvement Project. In fact, a $53.51 million grant and a $35.62 million loan from the African Development Fund, the Bank Group's concessional lending facility, are intended respectively for Guinea-Bissau and Senegal.

Added to this is another donation of 11.60 million dollars to Guinea-Bissau. This sum is provided by the Transition Support Facility, a Bank mechanism that allows quick, simple and flexible disbursement for fragile states on the continent. In reality, the project to improve the Bissau-Dakar road corridor consists of building a 325 m long bridge in the town of Farim, in Guinea-Bissau, on the Cacheu River and developing 49.40 kilometers of asphalted road, 23 kilometers in Guinea-Bissau and 26.40 kilometers in Senegal.

According to Mohamed Chérif, the African Development Bank's country manager in Senegal, “this project will improve the level of service on the Fatim-Tanaff-Sandinieri road, as well as safety and the crossing of the Cacheu River to access the capital of Guinea-Bissau.”
