The National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) presented a report last week on corruption and related offences in Cameroon. Thus, the document notes that the country suffered global damage estimated at nearly 44 billion CFA francs (more than 66 million dollars) in 2021, an increase of more than 26 billion CFA francs (some 40 million dollars) compared to the year 2020.

In its mission to monitor and evaluate the effective implementation of the government's anti-corruption program, CONAC has revealed financial crimes in Cameroon. The president of the institution, Dieudonné Massi Gams said that “so far we have worked hard to combat this vice, but we still need to strengthen our strategy. It is true that people are becoming aware of their responsibilities to fight corruption and control the management of public funds, but officials also need to do more.”

According to the 2021 Cameroon corruption report, police officers and local officials are the worst offenders. It is also noted that the health, education, finance, road transport and territorial administration sectors are the most affected.
