The information was delivered by Touré Jean François, vice-president of Intercoton, this Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in Abidjan.
"In recent years, international customers have drawn our attention to the loss of certain characteristics that made our fiber one of the best in the sub-region," he explains.
For Touré Jean François, also president of the Association of Cotton Societies of Côte d'Ivoire " the National Center for Agronomic Research has reassured that the concerns of cotton companies and those of international traders have been taken into account. CI 123 and CI 128 meet the needs of the market and should allow Côte d'Ivoire to reposition itself internationally."
In Côte d'Ivoire, the production of white gold has improved in recent years, despite the decried decline in its quality. The country is, today, ranked third African producer with a harvest of 490 thousand tons between 2019 and 2020.
This result is, in part, achieved thanks to state support for the sector and the support of development partners. This was far from being a gamble won after a year 2002 that almost brought the sector to its knees and even threatened it with disappearance with an estimated production of less than 120 thousand tons.
