Companies in the formal sector are demanding the cancellation of taxation and the
parataxation over the entire period of the crisis as well as the immediate supply of the Régie d refund of Value Added Tax (VAT) credits.
This demand from modern businesses is among the recommendations of a study by the Institute
National Statistics (INS) on the assessment of the impact of Covid-19 on the activities of companies in the
modern formal sector, informal production units and on household living conditions.
The study also asks the State to quickly make operational the support measures for
companies, to set up a tax-saving policy to support banks and a system
free distribution of masks and gels to companies and reduce import tariffs for goods and
services in the post-crisis period.
With regard to the informal sector, the survey recommends making operational the support fund dedicated to the
sector and the support measure for the food, vegetable and fruit sector and to set up a cell of
revival of informal sector activities responsible for identifying and supporting informal sector operators in
difficulty.
At the household level, the chiefs solicit cash transfers, food donations, distribution
free protection kits, support for water and electricity bills and support for
rents.
This study carried out by the NSI was commissioned by the United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) to assess the impact of COVID-19 on household living conditions and poverty, put
highlighting the upheavals in the management and operation of companies, identifying the impact of the
pandemic on enterprises in the formal sector and informal production units, analyze
COVID-19 transmission channels on activities, highlight sectors and branches
of the most affected activities and finally, list proposals and suggestions for measures for a
relaunch of activities.
The restitution ceremony took place on Friday, in the presence of the Minister of Planning and Development, Nialé
Kaba, UNDP Côte d'Ivoire Resident Representative Carole Flore-Smereczniak and partners
technical and financial.
