On Monday, December 18, an agreement signing ceremony was held between Rwanda and the African Foundation for Pharmaceutical Technology. This is a headquarters agreement for the creation of a health defense system in Africa. It also includes a high quality pharmaceutical industry in the continent.

AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina said at the signing ceremony that Rwandan President Paul Kagamé and his government have shown their wisdom by graciously agreeing to host the African Foundation for Pharmaceutical Technology. According to Adesina, Africa should no longer entrust the health security of an estimated one billion Africans to the benevolence of others. “That is why the BAD has launched a three billion dollar program for quality health infrastructure in Africa,” he emphasized, taking as an example the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, which shook the world in general and Africa. in particular.

He added that his institution has just launched another $3 billion program over the next seven years to develop the pharmaceutical industry in Africa to meet the continent's needs for essential drugs and vaccines.
