The Central Bank of Egypt (EPC) devalued the local currency by 17% on 21 March and raised its key interest rate by 100 basis points to fight inflation. According to the rating agency Fitch Ratings, these measures should lead to a recovery in the net foreign assets of Egyptian banks. The reason for this is the return of confidence from foreign investors through a more flexible exchange rate regime and a new program set up by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
