Niger and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have signed two financing agreements. An envelope of 70 billion CFA francs for the development of road infrastructure and another of 789.5 million CFA francs for the agricultural sector.
The first agreement worth more than 70 billion CFA francs relates to the development of road infrastructure in accordance with WAEMU standards. As for the second financing agreement, with an envelope of 789.5 million CFA francs, it concerns the agriculture and agri-food sector.
This support targets the Integrated Project to Open Up Hamdara-Wacha–Doungass-Nigeria Border Cross-Border Areas, which consists of the development and asphalting of 110 km of road to WAEMU standards following an integrated approach. This approach covers not only the transport sector but also the fields of agriculture, livestock and the social field (health, education and gender). The total cost of this project is estimated at 91.05 billion CFA francs, of which the AfDB is contributing an amount of 71.05 billion CFA francs, said the Minister of Planning.
The second AfDB-funded project is the Project to Support the Development of a National Strategy and Action Plan for Decent Youth Employment in the Agriculture and Agri-Food Sectors in Niger. It aims to promote job creation in the agricultural and agri-food sectors in Niger.
