Ericsson Middle East and Africa Vice President Hossam Kandeel spoke during an interview about telecommunications development in Nigeria and the potential of 5G in the country.

The launch of 5G on September 19, 2022 was an important step towards further digitization of the economy. According to Hossam Kandeel, Nigeria also has numerous mobile wallet applications and providers in the economy. The country's ICT sector is at a highly developed stage, but ICT is a never-ending ambition. Systems like 2G or 3G were restrictive in what they could do. These two technologies are quite low-end, while 4G and 5G are quite high-end.

According to the latter, one of the main advantages of 5G is that it is a technology created to connect things, not just individuals. Thus, the breadth of devices that can be supported corresponds to the new ages to come. The Vice President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa also believes that 5G will help people who develop and propose ideas have the right network to create new startups, programs, and applications. People will use network resources and connectivity to become more empowered. This will increase accessibility in societies and lead to further economic development.
