This announcement was made during a fervent State of the Nation Address.
The president stated that infrastructure construction is the cornerstone of President Barrow's government. It aims to connect communities, stimulate economic growth, and improve the daily lives of Gambians. "Three of the roads, whose construction is part of projects funded by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have progressed satisfactorily, with the completion of the Sukuta viaduct construction works scheduled for this year. By the end of 2026, my government will have added three hundred and seventy-five (375) kilometers of additional paved roads to the national network. This expansion is being implemented through an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model fully funded by the Government of The Gambia at an approximate cost of about nine billion dalasis," the president announced.
According to the Head of State, the progress made in the country in the fields of agriculture, health, education, tourism, as well as in the implementation of the security sector reform program, shows the image of a nation moving forward, making great strides.
"The construction of an additional 700 km of roads through innovative financing methods will begin soon. These new roads have been deliberately designed to complement the existing road network," he stated.
