Supported by more persistent than expected inflation in the United Kingdom in March, the pound rose slightly against the dollar and the euro on Wednesday, opening the door to more rate hikes.

The pound gained 0.08% to $1.2435 and 0.24% to 88.10 pence per euro around 09:00 GMT (11:00 in Paris). Inflation slowed in March in the United Kingdom to 10.1% year on year, more than analysts expected, and core inflation remained

stable at 6.2%.

For its part, the Canadian dollar lost 0.25% to 1.3423 Canadian dollars per American dollar and 0.10% to 1.4705 Canadian dollars per euro.
