The US dollar rose Tuesday to its highest since early 2016 against the yen, galvanized by the determination of the US central bank to raise rates in the face of inflation. On the other hand, this currency fell back against the British pound. A sign of the markets' hesitation, the Dollar index, which compares the greenback to a basket of other major currencies, was in equilibrium (+0.01% to 98.50 points).

Against the yen, the dollar gained 1.04% to 120.72 yen, after hitting a six-year high of 121.03 yen. On the other hand, the euro remained in equilibrium at 1.1024 dollars (+0.07%), the single European currency being more sensitive recently to progress on negotiations between Ukraine and Russia than to monetary policy.
