(CercleFinance.com) - Insensitive to the fall from nearly -1.5% to -2% of Wall Street this Friday, the Dollar gains ground against the Pound and the Canadian $ (+0.2%) but loses some fractions against the Euro (-0.2% to 1.1860) and against the Yen (-0.2% also to 104.45).

The greenback did not welcome the Conference Board's good composite index of leading indicators for August, which rose +1.2% last month, to 106.5 in August (105 expected)... and neither does the University of Michigan's consumer confidence index, which climbed +4.8Pts to 78.9 points in preliminary estimate in September.

Economists expected it for their part, on average up +1%, to 75 points.

The pound has clearly lost ground against the euro (-0.45%) after 3 days of rebound and a test of 0.91/E, an ex-level of resistance dating back to the end of June and the end of July.

The reasons are essentially political, as the 'figure of the day' is not a 'market mover': UK retail sales rose by 0.8% in August compared to the previous month, according to the ONS, thus exceeding the consensus by 0.1 point, and by 4% their level of last February, i.e. before the coronavirus pandemic.
