Senegal's trade was marked by strong exports, which rose from 138.1 billion in May to 156.4 billion in June 2020, an increase of 18.1 billion in absolute value and 13.2% in relative value.

This increase, explains Ansd in its latest monthly bulletin of foreign trade statistics, is mainly due to the increase in shipments of canned fish, broths (7.8 billion), fresh sea fish (22.9 billion) and non-monetary gold ((28.5 billion).

However, the drop in exports of titanium and unroasted peanuts reduced this increase. Compared to June 2019, shipments were up 21.9%.

Their total at the end of June 2020 stood at 1021.7 billion FCfa against 1032.8 billion for the corresponding period in 2019, i.e. a contraction of 1.1%. Senegal's main customers were Switzerland (11.4%), Mali (11.3%), India (9.1%), Côte d'Ivoire (8.1%) and Australia (7.0%).

With regard to imports in June 2020, they stood at 330.9 billion FCfa against 264.1 billion FCfa in the previous month, an increase of 25.3%.

This increase, explains the Ansd, is linked to the purchase of machines and devices for other industries, parachemical industry products, animal and vegetable oils and fats and finished petroleum products.

The Ansd notes, however, that this increase in imports was moderated by the drop in imports of corn (-60.3%) and pharmaceutical products (-44.4%). Compared to June 2019, imports increased by 19.7%.

Their total at the end of June 2020 stood at 2,107.3 billion against 1,983.4 billion for the corresponding period in 2019, an increase of 6.2%.

Senegal's main suppliers were France (16.6%), China (10.8%), Nigeria (9.3%), India (5.5%) and Belgium-Luxembourg (3 .8%).

Regarding the trade balance, it stood at -174.5 billion in June 2020, against -126.0 billion in the previous month.
