African players in the blue economy have been meeting in Lomé since Monday, September 19, 2022. The meeting is part of the postponed celebration of African Maritime Day on 25 July, under the theme “Strengthening the blue economy agenda in Africa”.

The work of this two-day meeting aims to strengthen international synergies in marine protection and sustainable marine management. In particular, actors are exchanging the experiences of countries such as Seychelles in the sector, and exploring actions to be implemented in order to inform, raise awareness and trigger changes focused on behavior and consumption patterns.

For Nancy Karigithu, AU Blue Economy Ambassador in Kenya, present for this work, actors at various levels must mobilize to face challenges like these such as the scourge of illegal fishing, pollution, piracy, trafficking and erosion, which threaten the stability and prosperity of coastal countries and their neighbors.
