Two global electricity giants, EDF and BBOXX, are joining forces to accelerate the electrification of rural households via the "Cizo" project. The project set up in October 2017 is a real boost in the process of electrification of the most remote households in rural areas.

In West Africa, a wave of solar projects to facilitate access to energy for people in rural areas of Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Togo and Sierra Leone. The implementation of the "Cizo" project will make it possible to combine innovative services in order to support rural populations disconnected from electricity, to live in conditions similar to those of populations who are connected to the conventional electricity grid".

In Nigeria, Nigerian company Sunnyfred Global has signed an agreement with Singaporean giant B&S Power Holding PTE to finance and implement a 200 MWp solar power plant in Ashama, Delta State. The project should be completed in 9 to 15 months, the plant will be located on a plot of 304 ha and will diversify the energy produced, support the industrial and commercial activities of the country. The country's electricity capacity is 12,522 MWp, of which 10,142 MWp is produced from thermal power plants and 2,380 MW is supplied by hydroelectric facilities.

In Togo, the Togolese Agency for Rural Electrification and Renewable Energies (AT2ER) has launched a call for tenders for the acquisition and installation of the first 600 irrigation kits. The tender will end on March 29 and will be financed by the African Development Fund (ADF) and the European Union Trust Fund, Togo First said.

Benin and Burkina Faso will benefit from the action of the French start-up Qotto. The latter has just received financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) which has allocated $ 2.5 million through the Off-Grid Energy Access Fund of the Energy Inclusion Facility (FEI-OGEF), a debt fund managed by Lion's Head Global Partners (LHGP), with the aim of electrifying rural households in both countries.

In Côte d'Ivoire, the Ivorian Press Agency reports that more modest projects have emerged with the implementation of a solar pump that powers a brand new water tower in the village of Sokouamékro and will improve the living conditions of 1500 people.
