.According to the Mauritanian Ministry of Energy
and Oil, the agreement is based on two components: the construction of a power plant
of 60 megawatts guaranteed and the definition of the mechanisms for the purchase of
electricity produced for the benefit of the Société Mauritanienne d'Électrice.
The new infrastructure will have a
installed capacity of 160 megawatts solar and 60 megawatts of wind power, capable
to ensure a daily supply of 60 to 100 megawatts during the 15
years of its operation.
The work, scheduled to last 12 months, should
allow commissioning as early as September 2026.
Special feature of this power plant: it will be the first in Mauritania to integrate a large-scale battery system capacity, allowing up to 370 megawatt hours to be stored. This device will guarantee food even during periods of low wind, at night or in case of low sunlight.
With this project, Mauritania affirms its
desire to invest in renewable energies and to strengthen its security
energy, while reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
