Construction work on a 100 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Kairouan is about to start. The financial closure of the project was the focus of a meeting on Monday, in Tunis, between the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Neila Gongi, with the Executive Director of the Emirate “AMEA POWER” Group, Mohamed Al Nowais, and representatives of the African Bank of Development (ADB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The Kairouan PV plant is part of a first series of solar projects totalling 500 MW registered under a concession program launched by the Tunisian government. These are the Metbassta plant in Kairouan (100 MW), the Borj Bourguiba plant in Tataouine (200 MW), the Tozeur power plant (50 MW), the Sidi Bouzid plant (50 MW) and the Gafsa plant (100 MW). This program aims to diversify energy sources by focusing on clean energies in order to promote Tunisia's energy transition.
