The good momentum of Benin's cotton sector is increasingly confirmed every year. As the leading cotton producer in West Africa since 2018, Benin has produced more than 728,000 tonnes.

The previous season, Benin had achieved 714,714 tons, an increase of about 2%. According to Mathieu Adjovi (President of the Benin Interprofessional Cotton Association), this improvement in performance recorded in an a priori unfavorable context, is explained among other things by a framework and agricultural advice to producers and support for the governance of cotton producer organizations more adapted during the 2020-2021 cotton season.
Since 2018, Benin has taken the lead in white gold producing countries in Africa by achieving a production of 678,000 tons against a little more than 200,000 tons in 2016.
