The Republic of Senegal has officially joined the International Platform on Sustainable Finance (PIFD) created in October 2019 as part of international efforts to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement, the ministry announced on September 2, 2020. Senegalese finance and budget.

The members of this platform are the European Union and the competent authorities of Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway , Singapore and Switzerland. It is estimated that achieving the Paris goals will require billions of investments in sustainable infrastructure over the coming decades. The PIFD thus appears essential to "stimulate investments and redirect capital flows towards our climate objectives on the scale required for the most important economic transition of our time", advance the officials of the Senegalese Ministry of Finance and Budget. They also believe that they need greater international cooperation to better join their efforts to increase environmentally sustainable finance on a global scale and to promote the integration of markets for green financial products on a global scale.

“To this end, the PIFD acts as a forum to facilitate exchanges and, where appropriate, coordinate efforts on initiatives and approaches to environmentally sustainable finance”. It will focus on initiatives such as taxonomies, standards and labels, and information provision, which are fundamental for investors to identify and seize green investment opportunities around the world.

PIFD is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, the International Organization of Securities Commissions, the Network for the Greening of Financial System, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations Environment Program – Finance Initiative in their observer role. The PIFD is open to public authorities who act and wish to promote international cooperation in the areas mentioned above.
