The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is committed to supporting Senegal's agricultural sector. The Representative of the Fund in Senegal and the Senegalese Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation signed this Tuesday, February 9 in Dakar, the financing agreement.

As part of the implementation of the Sahel Joint Programme in response to covid-19, Conflict and Climate Change (SD3C) challenges, the State of Senegal and the specialized agency of the United Nations system are sealing a funding partnership.
According to Amadou Hott, Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, the program extends over a period of three years for the first phase (2021-2023). The latter stressed that "the distribution of the basic costs of the project by component proves a strong orientation of the program on increasing productivity, production and economic integration".
The objective of this programme is to strengthen the livelihoods of small producers, especially women and young people, living in cross-border areas. Eventually, 11,000 agropastoral households, for about 110,000 people, 50% of whom are adult women and 30% young people, will be affected.
The international financial institution intervened in this West African country "on about twenty projects/programs affecting 667,643 households and co-financed for a total amount of 875.43 million US dollars, including 318.66 million representing IFAD contributions".
