Meeting by videoconference for its 121st ordinary session, the West African Development Bank (Boad) is granting two loans totalling CFAF 10 billion. This funding aims to support two projects in Guinea-Bissau. Boad's Board of Directors premiered 2021, under the chairmanship of its President, Serge Ekué. After approving the minutes of the 119th and 120th meetings, held on 24 November and 8 December 2020 respectively, the Council examined and approved two (02) loan proposals for an amount of CFAF 10 billion. "These new approvals bring to 6,264.86 billion FCFA, the total commitments (all operations combined) of boad since the start of its operational activities in 1976," said a press release. The loans approved relate to the partial financing of the following projects. This is the Project to Support the Intensification of Food Production (Paipv) in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The project aims, among other things, to develop the potential for unexploited land, through the development of strategic crops such as rice, in order to increase the financial and economic power of the populations of the various targeted areas. The amount of the operation is 5 billion FCfa. The other project concerns the development and asphalting of the Buba-Catiò road in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the opening up of the southern region of Guinea Bissau and to facilitate economic and social exchanges at the national and subregional levels. The amount of the operation is 5 billion FCfa.
