The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Resources Naturals announced the sending of the deep-sea drilling vessel Çağrı Bey to the Somalia for an offshore oil exploration operation. It's about the first deep-sea drilling mission conducted by Ankara outside its own maritime areas.
The ship left the port of Taşucu, in the province of Mersin, on Sunday, February 15, during an official ceremony in the presence of Turkish Minister of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar, as well as officials Somalis in charge of ports and hydrocarbons.
According to Turkish authorities, drilling will begin next April on the Curad-1 well, located about 370 kilometers offshore from Mogadishu. The choice of this zone is based on seismic data. collected previously by the research vessel Oruç Reis on three blocks offshore Somalis. The trip to the area of operation is expected to take around 45 minutes. days. For technical reasons, the ship will bypass the Suez Canal. Nearly 180 people are taking part in the mission, escorted by naval units Turkish authorities responsible for providing security and logistical support.
