The energy purchase contract between Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia was signed on Friday in Abidjan by CI-Energies and CIE (Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Élec) for the Ivorian side and LEC (Liberian Electricity Corporation) for Liberia.
The electrical interconnection project aims to contribute to considerably increasing, from Côte d'Ivoire, the supply of electrical energy to countries neighbours. The project, with a total initial cost of 450 million US dollars (225 billion CFA francs), is the result of a treaty signed in 2012 by the four countries with the World Bank, the African Development Bank (ADB), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the KFW (German bank).
With this three-year supply contract, Côte d'Ivoire will deliver 25 MW of energy to Liberia in 2022 and 2023 and 50 MW in 2024. Before Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone signed, on 30 November 2021 and 1 December 2021 respectively, with Côte d'Ivoire a power purchase contract under the Côte d'Ivoire-Liberia-Sierra Leone-Guinea interconnection project (CLSG).
