World Bank experts announced in a forum entitled: “Towards effective public debt policy and management: Benin's journey” that Benin has emerged as a country showing significant progress in its approach to financial governance, in the landscape diversified debt policy and management in sub-Saharan Africa (ASS).

The economist Wilfried A. Kouame, and the senior specialist on debt, macroeconomics, trade and investment, H. Hakan Yavuz, highlighted the factors contributing to Benin's success. They placed particular emphasis on the measures taken by the Government to promote balanced and transparent debt management. For World Bank experts, “Benin's success in promoting balanced and transparent debt management can serve as an example to other countries in the region and beyond. While countries continue to face the challenges of debt policy and management, Benin's experience offers a road map for promoting sustainable and responsible financial governance.”

Benin's economic performance, according to experts, has been supported by a solid legal framework, ongoing reforms, and effective coordination between debt management and macroeconomic policies.
