The strike started on October 24 and was suspended for three days before resuming on October 31. Indeed, exporters said on Tuesday, November 9, 2022, that cocoa bean arrivals in San Pedro were blocked last week after dockers refused to unload trucks as part of an ongoing strike that affects the industry before the peak of the main harvests.

Due to the strike, there were no cocoa deliveries to San Pedro between October 31 and November 6. Indeed, this strike took place in the run-up to the exceptional harvests of the main harvest from October to March in the world's largest cocoa producer. For example, exporters increased their wages to 105 CFA francs ($0.1598) per bag, compared with 30 CFA francs previously, according to the request of dockers responsible for unloading packaged cocoa beans from trucks.

According to Reuters Amidou Sylla, one of the leaders of the movement “Only small exporters proposed this increase while large companies with large volumes did not make any offers, so we won't go back to work.”
