Grupo Simec said on Monday, August 14, that it intends to suspend indefinitely the steel manufacturing operations of its Republic Steel mills in Canton, Ohio, and Lackawanna

Grupo Simec is a leading international producer of special grade steel (SBQ), steel wire, rebar, and commercial and structural steel long products. Indeed, American customers of Republic Steel will be served via Grupo Simec's state-of-the-art steel mill in Tlaxcala, Mexico during the period of inactivity. For their part, American customers will not experience any service interruption. With regard to the causes of this suspension, Jaime Vigil, a member of the board of directors and executive adviser of Republic Steel, Grupo Simec, has exhausted all additional potential options in addition to slowing down these two operations
