Under a Sicomines copper and cobalt deal, Chinese construction companies will invest up to $7 billion in infrastructure projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The government of Congo had signed an agreement under which Chinese partners agreed to build roads and hospitals in exchange for a 68% stake in the joint venture with the Congolese state-owned mining company Gécamines. As part of this agreement, Chinese investors have committed to spend 3 billion dollars on infrastructure projects. To this end, the two parties agreed to maintain the current ownership structure, while the Chinese partners, Sinohydro Corp (SINOH.UL) and China Railway Group Limited, will pay 1.2% of royalties annually in Congo,
