On Friday, May 31, the Syndicate of Container Transporters in Senegal denounced in Ziguinchor, the ban on the transport of cashew nuts by land. Carriers are calling for multimodal transport

.

The ship Djilor docked on Monday at the port of Ziguinchor (south), with 300 empty containers intended for the evacuation of cashew production in Casamance. According to officials of the Senegalese Maritime Affairs Consortium (COSAMA), this ship “will finally begin the process of evacuating cashew production” from the southern regions of the country. They indicated that the arrival of this ship “marks the start of the 2024 season of the cashew nut industry in Ziguinchor”. According to Papa Waly Faye, a member of the union of container transporters in Senegal, “this situation has led to the blockade of the cashew nut campaign. For the past two years, exports have been done by road with trucks. We are not against the boat being there. But we are in favor of multimodal transport
