In 2025, Morocco emerged as the leader of Mobile Internet performance in North Africa, according to the Speedtest Global Index™ published by the specialized platform Ookla. The Kingdom now occupies The 1the regional place and the 39â at the level World Cup, registering a spectacular jump of 22 places compared to 2024, supported by the implementation of its national 5G deployment strategy.

Launched in November 2025, 5G technology has played a role decisive in improving mobile performance. Although his introduction was later than in some neighboring countries, the strong Increase in 5G high-speed connection tests observed at the end of year a resulted in a significant increase in the median speed of download. This dynamic allowed Morocco to beat Algeria (78â in the world ranking), the Tunisia (72â), Egypt (83â) and the Libya (103â), thus consolidating its status as a regional reference.

At the scale of North Africa, the year 2025 was marked through contrasting developments. Four of the five countries in the sub-region have launched 5G, but the results remain mixed. Tunisia and Egypt, among others the first adopters, registered only limited progress, hampered by insufficient network capacity and infrastructure under pressure. Algeria, which deployed 5G in December 2025, has made more significant progress, while remaining behind Morocco.

In the fixed Internet segment, the Kingdom also has improved its performance thanks to the acceleration of fiber deployment optics in 2024 and 2025. It rose 11 places to reach the 105â world position, with a median download speed of 56.27 Mbps in the fourth quarter. Algeria has seen even greater progress, rising 28 ranks to Locate at 109â place, while Egypt retains, despite a slight decline, the best regional performance in fixed broadband.

These advances illustrate the profound transformation of the telecommunications sector in North Africa, with a Morocco is now a driving force in terms of performance and innovation. However, According to Ookla, this dynamic could run out of steam as early as 2026, as the use of 5G is becoming widespread and that the needs in terms of network capacity and investments are becoming more pressing.
