Moroccan direct investment (MDI) in Africa continues to grow over the years. There is thus an average annual growth rate of 8.3% over the period 2009-2019.Aid flows from Morocco coupled with the presence of  Moroccan economic operators on the African continent have strongly strengthened over the last ten years. Morocco is now present in about thirty African countries through the export of financial services, telecoms, real estate, distribution or the chemical industry.
The Kingdom has established itself among the first African investors in the Economic Union of West African States (UEMOA) and the Community of Central African States (CEMAC), East Africa, Central and Southern Africa. West Africa alone captures 55% of Moroccan investment in Africa while North Africa holds 25% of flows against 15% for Central Africa and 5% for Southern Africa.
Morocco's investments in Africa increased from 3 billion dirhams in 2009 to 6.8 billion dirhams. They reached their highest level in 2017 reaching a peak of 8.8 billion dirhams. Côte d'Ivoire is the first destination for Moroccan investors. Out of 55.5% of the flows spread over three African countries in 2019, Côte d'Ivoire captures 21.4%, Chad comes in second place with 19.8%. It is followed by Senegal with a share of 14.7% and Egypt with 3.7% of total Moroccan investment in Africa.
