80 participants receive training offered by the AfDB on the development of projects eligible for financing from the Green Climate Fund.

They, in turn, will pass on the knowledge to potential climate finance recipients.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has undertaken to train 80 African nationals on the development of projects eligible for financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Coming from public institutions, participants in the 120-hour online training will in turn be responsible for transferring this knowledge to organizations eligible for funded funding.

The organization of this training is part of the Bank's efforts in cooperation with the GCF and other partners to help African countries have direct access to its financing.

One of the major problems facing climate finance in Africa is "the complexity of designing climate change projects. This training will build the capacity of nationally determined African authorities, governments and consultants by training trainers to facilitate future courses," said Gareth Phillips (photo), Director of the Environment and Climate Finance Division in the AfDB's Climate Change and Green Growth Department.
