Professor Gayane Faye, Project Coordinator Senegal Satellite (Sensat) announced on Thursday, January 15, last Thursday, January 15 that the country intends to strengthen its sovereignty in space by launching of a second satellite, GaindeSat-1B in 2026. The announcement was made during the academic year 2025-2026, from the Center for Advanced Studies in Defense and security (Cheds).

Professor Gayane Faye has declared: “We are going to put a new satellite into orbit (GaindeSat-1b) in 2026 to strengthen our independence. In a world ultra-competitive, you have to give yourself the means to acquire own tools capable of producing spatial data.”
