Diamniadio, Sept 29 (APS) - Senegal's extended consultation group of technical and financial partners, also known as the G50, wants "effective, transparent and prudent management" of Senegalese debt in the medium term, including debt to private suppliers of the State, to limit the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on job creation.
"We are delighted that the private sector is one of the pillars of the economic recovery – with an expected contribution of 42% against 22% in PAP 2 – and the acceleration of the measures announced in this regard," said the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Senegal, Irène Mingasson, Tuesday, during the Presidential Council on the recovery of the Senegalese economy.

According to Ms. Mingasson, this prospect of seeing the private sector at the forefront of economic recovery, however, implies "effective, transparent and prudent management of medium-term debt, including debt to private suppliers of the State in order to limit the impact of the crisis on job-creating investments".

The Ambassador of the European Union to Senegal, speaking on behalf of the Enlarged Consultation Group of Technical and Financial Partners, said that development partners also encourage the Senegalese government in its "sustained efforts" regarding other "key governance reforms, such as the reform of public administration and the fight against corruption".

"These are elements that guarantee the sustainability of our respective investments," said Irène Mingasson.

Senegal's development partners, she recalled, "mobilized in record time to support the implementation of the Economic and Social Resilience Program to mitigate the effects of Covid-19."

"Indeed, the partners have been able to commit some 873 billion FCFA of contribution to the Covid19 Force Fund that you have established - well above the 60% expected. This responsiveness has also materialized on the ground with a reprogramming of activities and resources to respond to the national emergency," she said.
