Togo and Rwanda have taken a new step in the strengthening their bilateral relationships with the signing of an agreement Reciprocal visa exemption for holders of all categories of passports. The agreement was initialled at the end of the week in Lomé by the ministers Foreign Affairs of the two countries, Robert Dussey and Olivier Nduhungirehe, symbolizing the common desire to facilitate mobility between the two States.

This measure aims to facilitate the movements of Togolese and Rwandan nationals in order to stimulate economic exchanges, encourage tourism and strengthen human and cultural ties between Lomé and Kigali. It is part of a context of increased diplomatic ties, after the announcement in January 2025 of a shared desire to intensify cooperation in several strategic sectors, including digital technology, agriculture, trade, investments, green finance and energy.

The visa exemption should thus remove important administrative obstacles for economic operators and investors, promoting a more concrete implementation of joint projects. It extends also the momentum generated during the high-level exchanges held in August 2024 in Kigali, on the sidelines of the presidential inauguration ceremony Rwandan Paul Kagamé.

On this occasion, the President of the Council Togolese, Faure Gnassingbé, then President of the Republic, pleaded for a diversification of the partnership between the two countries and for an exploitation increased opportunities offered by the Continental Free Trade Area African (AfCFTA), now at the heart of economic integration strategies regional.
