The president of Fonac, Dr Jean-Baptiste Elias, was on Friday, July 21, 2023 on the program “Questions Actuelles” on Capp Fm. He has highlighted the weaknesses in the fight against corruption in Benin.

The program “Current Issues” on Capp Fm radio was based on the theme “The fight against corruption in pain or failure in Benin”. During the development, the former president of the African Union Council on Combating Corruption and current President of Fonac, said that Criet is not a universal remedy in the fight against corruption. For Dr. Jean-Baptiste Elias, “Criet is there to punish offenses. Many countries have put a specialized anti-corruption jurisdiction before Benin. Despite the fact that Criet was installed in 2018 until 2023, corruption continues. That is not what is needed yet.”

According to him, we must combine actions, be it training, awareness-raising, and education and repression, in disciplinary council and then at the level of Criet. According to him, when it comes to corruption, there is not only the repressive side, there is awareness, education, popularization. And, all this is entrusted to the High Commission for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption governed by the law of 23 April 2020, which is not installed
